My Week

My week:

Kia ora

One thing I learnt this week was our Maori prefixes kai and how it changes the word. Some of the kai-words are kaiawhina. one of the kai-words i learnt, kai karakia and Kaitiaki. I enjoyed it because it was easy and not hard. Another thing I learnt was nets and prisms, I  learnt that a prism is a three-dimensional geometric shape with two identical, parallel bases that are polygons and flat, rectangular sides connecting them. This week we had kaupapa matua teaching the teina and I got frustrated. I don’t think I’m getting better on how to handle them. I definitely do not want to be a teacher when I’m older.

My week:

Kia ora

One thing I learnt this week when we had Whaea Sharon was how to play this math game, you had to be in a pair of 2, we had cards 0-10 and we had a dice. We rolled the dice and you had to flip a card up to see what you got on the card and what you got on the dice you had to x them together and whatever you got to highlight it on the paper 1-100 whoever got four in a row won.

A thing I enjoyed this week was this quick story that we did with Sharon, we made a story about an animal that you could own me and Jaelyn worked together and made a goat named Porangi the goat. We also did a skit about teaching with me Isla, Stella, Amaia, Jaelyn and me we did this around our maori prefixes we had to put 5 Whaka- words into the skit we didn’t have time to finish it the words i used were whakapainga, whakarongo, whakatika and whakata. I learnt about our Maori prefixes Whaka and how it changes the word Whaka – is a prefix that turns a word into an action or causes something to happen. I found making the skit challenging because people weren’t participating and not listening so it made it much harder than it needed to be.

Nga mihi.

My Week

This week I learnt how frustrating is can be to be a teacher. For kaupapa matua the tuakana got split up into six groups Poi, Rakua, Patu and Taiaha us year 7&8 had to come up with a action to teach the other kids that our in our group we teach the on Thursdays and we come up with the actions on Tuesday. On thursday I got frustrated with some of the teina because they weren’t listening so I said I wasn’t doing it anymore but I learnt what the teachers have to go through everyday. We got them into lines and practice the action we came up with it took them a while to get it right but its getting better.

Another thing we did this week was researching about what reading comprehension is and what a Phome/Graphome is. On Monday we had to do research on litercay topics. Matua wrote down a word/topic and we had to research on the topic/word matua would ask one of us what we found out about the topic/word one of the topics where Pheoeme/Graphome and found out that that means – A phoneme is the smallest unit of sound in a spoken language, while a grapheme is the written representation of that sound, often a single letter or a group of letters. I also found out what a reading comprehension is, It is the ability to understand the meaning of written text. Another thing  I learnt was what writing and small groups for reading.

Maori weapons

This term me and my class have been researching about Patu and Taiaha. For kapa haka Matua Travis had an idea for us to make our own patu for the tuhono group we had to sand the patu they were already shaped for us. Today after school we have our cultural night and there are activities one of them are staining the patu that we have been working on.

Weekly Reflection

Playing dodge ball in the hall because it’s fun and I didn’t have to sit inside playing board games. I really enjoyed seeing my friends on the second day of school because I missed them and didn’t see them during the holidays. Doing the plating for our korowai because it hurts my hands and it takes forever. Another challenge I faced this week was playing dodge ball because I struggled to stay up and not get hit.

Finishing my plate for the korowai because it hurt my hands but yet I still kept going. Another thing I felt proud of this week was seeing if this kid was ok. Focusing on my work more because I didn’t finish all my work. Next week I want to get better at not talking to my friends as much during work time.

Working with people I didn’t like for Kaupapa Matua. Another thing I would change about this week would be not talking to my friends and getting the work done.
